Inception of Christianity among the Galos

A time was there where Galo society was reeling in agony with the heavy burden under the evil spell of devils. Offering livestock, money and other valuables to perform ritual acts to please devils were common phenomenon which had been a tiresome job. Meanwhile, gospel preachers had preached about the deliverence and liberation in free of cost from such bondages so most of the afflicted persons and families embraced Christianity. Thus, during later part of 1950s and early part of 1960s Christianity reached among the Galo tribe of Arunachal Pradesh.

Receptive and Irreceptive Nature

It has been observed and opined that Christianity has no condradicting points with the Galo customs of eating habits, dress and way of life and that paves a way for accomodating the Christianity under Galo culture as considered it be an acceptable religion where culture would remain safe. Despite that, Galos were having aprehension of accepting Christianity fearing that this group will chase out the spirit which had been  parmanently resided along with them from generations together.

Role of Pioneers

Lt.Taro Boje, Lt.Dakto Doke, Lt.Tai Tatu, Lt.Bapak Taipodia, Lt.Simon Phangchou, Lt.Hebstron(American Missionary) and Rev. Marbom Tasar and others were the instruments to spread gospel among the Galo people.

Formation of Association/Church Plantation

Whereas, evangelism work was carried out by pioneers at their own expenses during the mid part of 1960 as a result in 1971 Karka Baptist Christian Association (KBCA) came into being. In the following years almost after a decade long period KBCA was renamed as West Siang Baptist Christian Association(WSBCA). Simultaneously in 1979 the Lower Likabali Baptist Christian as a part of WSBCA was formed at Likabali. As Revival Crusade was held at Dipa village from 22nd to 24th January 1982 whereon sermon was interpreted only in Minyong language which was not comprehend by Galo believers. In the following month in 25th of February a Pastors Fellowship was conducted at Pale village where the importance of having a Galo association was disscussed. Consequently a Church building dedication was held at Sili village whereon Rev. P.Lohe was dedicating minister and in the next day i.e on 17th of APRIL 1982 Galo elders gathered on the occasion had taken resolution to form separate association, thus unanimously accepted to have Adi Galo Baptist Christian Association(AGBCA); and it was resolved and adopted. The local Churches Telam Baptist Church under Nari circle was established on 1967 and in the following years Ngensi Baptist Church was established on 1968 under Tirbin circle, therafter number of local Church musroomed in different Galo areas.

Impact of Gospel

So far the major impact has not been felt because the changes of religion does'nt make much difference between Christian and other counter part. A Galo Christians, particularly believers of GBCC strongly uphold the custom and culture which does'nt contradict with Biblical doctrines. Somewhere using alcohol /wine in large scale has discouraged to some extent. Infact Christians are more advantage in having Church as their learning institution, they learned many things besides sermons from the  Church life which does'nt work with other counter part. Some taboos or superstitious belief has got errased even from non-Christian community due to the overwhelming influence of Christianity.
